A MESSAGE FROM THE LEFT HAND SEAT:
The VPB-111/VP-21 Veteran’s Association 2001 Reunion is now part of our squadron’s history. And an excellent addition to the history it is. Almost 190 of our Shipmates and spouses attended. The accommodations were great, the weather was beautiful, the program outstanding, and the opportunity to join together with the friends of our youth, priceless. I think it’s safe to say that everyone had a great time.
Dick Webb and his team of WarrenMassey and John McCarthy did a superb jog of coordinating the entire event. They richly deserved the sincere round of applause that they received during the banquet.
Several items were discussed and resolved at the business meeting. First off, your entire Board of Directors were reelected for another two-year term. Authority of the board was discussed. It was the consensus of the membership that the board should continue to conduct necessary Association business between our Reunions in a manner accomplished to date.
Due to the high cost of return mail, members will be dropped from the newsletter list after the return of two issues. It is essential, therefore, if you desire to continue receiving the newsletter, advise Ron Lenhoff immediately of any change of address. In a like manner, please notify Bob Nelson if you change your e-mail address.
Use of the roster and the e-mail list was discussed. It was emphasized that the only purpose of these lists is for us to be able to contact old friends. Any other use is considered an invasion of privacy.
By a vote of the attendees, the 2003 Reunion will be held in Pensacola, Florida, the Cradle of Naval Aviation. Information about that will be provided as the situation develops. I hope all you will be able to attend. It’s well worth the effort. This Reunion was especially poignant for me because I was able to get together with a friend I haven't seen in 34 years, my - CAC8, Ron Novay. Also, it was great to see our Skipper, John Orrill, and many other friends from my tours in 21.
There are still about 3,000 former VP-21 members out there that we have not yet located. Check your copy of the roster. If you know the whereabouts of someone who is not on the roster, or if you're willing to help locate them, please contact Ron Lenhoff. Let’s see how many we can get to the next Reunion.
