“Dr. Robert A. Adams passed away on March 8th, 2012, at the age of 88. He was born January 25th, 1924, the son of Major Harry O. Adams and Lady Agnes Grace Mason. He is buried in the National Cemetery in Kansas where he grew up, with his wife Margy Ellyn.

During World War II Adams served in the U.S. Navy, flying F4U’s, and B26 “”Privateers”” with Squadron VPB-111, in the Philippines and over the South China Sea.

Dr. Adams was a graduate of the “”Air Command & Staff”” College. He also graduated from the “”Air War College””, and served as instructor for Reserve Units in Illinois. He was also a Lt. Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol.

Dr. Adams graduated from Kansas State College in Pittsburg Kansas, and later earned his Masters M.S. degree from “”Sussex College of Technology”” in Sussex England. He completed his Doctorate degree at The University of Colorado

During a leave of absence from The University of Illinois from 1968-1970, Dr. Adams participated in the Saturn V N.A.S.A. Program located at New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a “”Down Range”” safety director for the Apollo Eleven Moon Shot from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Dr. Adams retired in 1988 from the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory located in Batavia, IL. He was head of the Emergency Preparedness Section for the High Energy Research Facilities.”
