“Horace Edgar Shuford, 98, passed away on October 25, 2017, Funeral services will be held in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4747 Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206, with Rev. Jackie Hayes officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4-6 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Shuford was born in Columbia S. Carolina and was a longtime resident of Yulee, Florida. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and later retired from Civil Service. He had retired as Fire Chief at Mayport Naval Station and as a Senior Bailiff with the Duval County Court House after 35.5 years. He was a member of VFW Post #4351, Fernandina, FL and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #2352, Yulee, FL. and the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, the late Mary E. Shuford, and daughter, Brenda Joyce Sutton; Survivors include his longtime companion and caretaker, Charlotte Graves; 2 daughters, Barbara Shuford Hicks, and Helen F. Gallman; 6 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.”
